Hidden away in a little South Yorkshire village called Wentworth, is the largest private residence
in the UK. Wentworth Woodhouse is a stately home that boasts over 300 rooms and a hell of a lot of history. It's somewhere I have visited many times, walking in the grounds, outdoor cinemas and even attended a car and food festival there. Unfortunately, I have only been inside the house on one occasion, this was on one of the guided tours available on their website. As a local and someone who loves history it was so interesting to walk around the rooms and hear of the history that happened right on my doorstep.
The house is currently undergoing restoration works to the roof and, as you can see from photos below, the whole building is covered in scaffolding. Although it isn't looking it's normal grand, picturesque self, it's good to know that work is being done to preserve this historic building. While these works are being carried out, Wentworth Woodhouse is offering a Rooftop tour, to view the house from an entirely new perspective. You're never going to get this opportunity again once the works are completed, so I jumped at the chance when I found out about it! I share my love for History with my Grandad, so for Christmas I got us tickets for the tour. We went last week and we had such a great day, it was so fascinating to us to see it from this perspective and get a first hand look at all the important works that taking place. After climbing the 135 steps to the top, we learned a lot from our tour guide who gave us great insight around the history of the original construction in the 1700's and the work that is now being done all these years later. I even got a quick glance at the inside, after the tour had finished, when we visited their gift shop and tea room! I have added some photos from the day below - including a photo of me in a lovely fluorescent orange safety vest haha!

I'm already hoping to book another tour of the inside of Wentworth Woodhouse soon, to see more of the amazing rooms and historical architecture. I can't wait to see it when the works are all completed!
That's a very cool vantage point. Thank you for bringing us along!
